Enterprise Content Management (ECM) According to Astral:

Astral defines ECM as the related core business technologies of document management, knowledge management and web content management. These technologies have one common purpose: to provide an enterprise-wide management system for business documents and content. These systems unlock the value of this content and allow it to be shared throughout organizations, and to be redistributed to customers, partners and suppliers.

Astral's research indicates that ECM is increasing in significance within business with the increased importance of the web, the explosion in growth of electronic business documentation and heavy emphasis on compliance. Systems that manage this content provide structure for unstructured information and assist in the optimisation of business processes and core functions.

ECM includes the following capabilities:

  • Imaging and Workflow
  • Document and Records Management
  • Web Content Management
  • Engineering Content Management
  • Business Process Management
  • Collaboration
